40、ombing in the American Island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassado

42、cretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message.
43、 And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to contin
44、ue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no thre
45、at or hint of war or of armed attack.
46、It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan ma
47、kes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many
48、days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japa
49、nese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United
50、 States by false statements and expressions of hope for conti
51、The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused sever
52、e damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to t
53、ell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addi
54、tion, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high
55、 seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
56、Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack ag
57、Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
58、Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.
59、Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
